Weeding of Ponca sacred corn plants will need help by volunteers to help the hand planted sacred corn & soybeans, planted earlier this year. There will be other dates for volunteers to help weed and care for the plants before harvest.
It is the first time in 136 years, Ponca sacred corn was planted by Ponca natives and grown in an area they once lived, before the Trail of Tears forced them to Oklahoma. Directions are given to get to the planting, near Neligh, Nebraska. Also information on lunch.
Bold Nebraska is planning a day of weed-pulling for Saturday, July 26, 2014. (9AM-6PM).
